This style has great impact and changes as the light changes. I use glass paints and outliners directly onto pieces of foil card which are then mounted onto canvas or board. Maps are a great subject and I originally had the idea for an overhead view of the City of York, which I then overlaid with a shattered glass design, creating the above piece, Red York.
I have undertaken a few commissions in this style, which is inspired by stained glass but without the glass and lead, and therefore lighter, safer and suitable for hanging on interior walls. Features like rivers are a great way of providing a contrast to the background colour (blue with red as above, or green with gold etc.)
Get in touch if you want to discuss having a piece made featuring your own location or a favourite place.
